Almost every business spends its marketing budget trying to get new leads and you know what? They’ve got it all wrong! That might seem like a wild statement, but it is undeniably true that the easiest way to generate income with your marketing is from your existing customers.

Now I’m not saying that businesses shouldn’t spend money trying to get new leads…if you’ve heard me speak before then you know I’m always harping on about driving traffic and generating leads – that is an absolutely critical component of business, but what I see with every business I work with is that they are simply not putting any time into monetising their existing customers.

Most have lists of email addresses on pieces of paper, unused and forgotten spreadsheets, contacts in their outlook calendar…you can probably relate to this right?

I’m about to share with you the best tool for generating additional income from your existing customers…and if you’ve heard me speak before, then you’ve probably already figured out that it’s with video. You see, if your customer hasn’t heard from you in a while, they might need to be reminded about the feeling they had when they bought your product or service last – because they absolutely bought from an influence of emotion. That’s the only way people ever buy, we think it’s with logic but really we just use logic to justify our emotions.

So you want to get them to feel that emotion, and create the desire for them to have it again.

The second part is to build their trust. Now you may already have this with some of your customers, but if you’re like most businesses, you probably have a list of cold leads that have almost forgotten who you are and what you do.

So make sure you’re providing value. Don’t get right in their face and try to sell them something right from the start…people don’t react well to that kind of marketing, and once you lose a customer it’s even harder to get them back.

So what value can you provide? Well, give them some free education or advice about the products or services you provide. For example, a real estate agent could provide a market update in the local area, or the top 10 ways to add resale value to your home. Whatever it is, don’t be shy to give away your best stuff – your customers will respect you for it and think that if you’re willing to give that away, then your products and services must be outstanding!

At this point you’ve re-established the all-important connection with your customer, so now it’s time to ask them to take action. Tell them what to do next, and remind them why it will make their life better – now this action may be to buy something, express interest, come to your shopfront, or give you a phone call…whatever it is make sure you are crystal clear about what they should do next and what the benefit is to them.

The format I’ve just shown you is called my Emotion, Information, Action method. The purpose is to hook your prospect or customer into watching the video, then engage and build trust with valuable information so that they will take the desired action at the end of the video.

It applies to any type of marketing video, but in order to get really good at this stuff, you should take the time to learn how to best influence emotions, find out what your customer is really searching for, and learn how to simply make and distribute your videos online to drive traffic and convert sales.
